I've been generally ignoring the Awards tonight given that they never hone in on the movies I generally rep lol. That said..
1) I've never been wild about dramas, but sports dramas seem to keep my attention (see Rocky IV and The Fighter).
2) Probably the most appealing part to me about this movie is that it reflects my life long goal to relocate to a rural Texas community that lives for Friday night football games. I'm still on the fence about living in either Midland or Odessa, but I'd bet almost anyone that within the decade I'll have settled down there. \o/
3) Sort of relevant to that, my love of country music had me surprised that Tim McGraw plays such a mean, overbearing father. I mean, it makes sense that he lives in rural Texas, but I just wish he wasn't so riled up all the time.
4) For everyone paying super close attention, the coach's wife was also a doctor in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
Hard to go wrong with west Texas football,

Argo
1) Eh it was okay. Maybe if I was a history professor or something this would have more of an impact on me, but I bet you could just watch a documentary about this and it would be about the same. There was nothing really wrong with this movie, but you know they manage to get home in the end, so there's not really super drama going on.
2) It's also hard for me to picture Ben Affleck in any other role than the one he had in Chasing Amy (which btw I reviewed that movie exactly 2 years ago today lol). Now that movie was really tight.
3) Had a pretty tight cameo when Joshua from the hit TV show Friends made an appearance. He obvi looks a little older given that it's been 16 years since his appearance as Rachel's boyfriend.
They also said "WHEELS UP" in it. That bumped it up a half grade (obvi).
4) At the end of the day I'm just not sure anything really set this movie apart. I mean, it's a good story, had good acting, but nothing made me think "omg this has to be one of the best movies of the year."

Sinister
1) Overall it was pretty spooky. The little kids were spooky, the crazy Diety person was spooky, and so were all the videos. Even the preview for the movie gave me the willies. I'm not wild about snuff films, and he sure loved tunin into those during this movie. DL was that lawnmower film ridiculously gross tho.
2) But why was it so dark the whole movie? It's like he hears a noise and then just runs around investigating it without turning on any lights SMH. Even during the day there's no lights on. And how did the daughter figure out how to drug the dad in the dark? She's like, 'where's that big bag of melatonin lol'?
3) It had a lot of solid foreshadowing. Like when the mom kept telling Ashley how they had to make his coffee. Or Ashley's love 4 tha paintings.
4) Maybe the best part was that FRED THOMPSON played the sheriff in the movie. The politically apathetic side of me never realized he was a big Republican when he was staring on SVU all those years. But really, if Fred Thompson can't bring justice to your town, who really could?
The snuff really got to me smh,

My Best Friend's Girl
1) It was better than I remembered. I'm not wild about Dane Cook, have a hit or miss relationship with Kate Hudson, and think Jason Biggs is pretty tight. But overall it was okay.
2) Part of my beef is I don't think Dane Cook is as good as other actors who try to pull off a bunch of raunchy one liners. My idol Joe Rogan has accused DC of stealing lines from other comedians so I think I generally am skeptical of him.
3) Also, the story is kinda unbelievable because Kate Hudson is light years outta Jason Biggs's league in this movie. Don't get me wrong, she's generally out of everyone's league, but here I don't think anyone was ever under the impression that the two of them were gonna work out.
4) The ending was kinda goofy too. I wasn't watching the movie under a microscope or anything, but did he really just run 26 miles with her to show her how much he loved her? If he was that winded so early into the run, I'm actually kinda surprised he didn't go into cardiac arrest or something.

Flight
1) It was pretty good. I'm not wild about flying, but the drinking/legal/chick thing appealed to me lol. Speaking of which, I'm on day 9 of sobriety and feeling pretty good. I get why Denzel is so content at the end of the movie lol.
2) Why is it that so many Denzel movies have these really long pauses in the middle of them with nothing going on? John Q, Man on Fire, and the hit movie HE GOT GAME were like this. I wonder if he specifically requests these long winded scenes where he just walks around to music lol.
3) I coulda gone without all those heroin injection scenes. The underside of my arms gives me the willies generally, but those scenes were intense.
4) I thought about writing a bunch of shenanigans about how the defense attorney was out to lunch but I get that those posts don't really appeal to the demographic audience of the blog lol.
5) I had some love for the movie too because it took me back to the greatest 2 weeks of my life- the ADI 2K6. There were always a bunch of airline crews that stayed at our hotel who loved to party. Hopefully nothing like this actually happened on tha airline smh.

Here Comes the Boom
1) I'm attempting to make some fighting debut in 2013, so this movie was kind of up my alley. I like to think that I'm not as overweight as Kevin James lol but who knows.
2) The movie was actually pretty bad. I didn't realize the whole story was just about him trying to save the music program at the school. Remember all those old "Save the Music" ads by VH1? Those were kinda goofy lol.
3) I didn't really understand why they had to change Kryzsztof Soszynski's name to that Ken guy when every other MMA person kept the same name. Well I guess they changed Bas Rutten's name too but whatev.
4) Anyone else catch the sick movie Bad Boys 2 playing in the background at that house? #yeahbuddy

Valentine's Day
1) I've referenced this movie a time or two on the blog but never gotten around to reviewing it. Actually I've tried to watch this movie several times but can just never make it all the way through it. It's that boring.
2) Obvi my A.D.D. is a pretty big impediment to me following complex movie story lines, but this one just had too many interlinks. Given that this movie doesn't take place in Salina, Kansas, I'm confused how everyone actually knows everyone in Los Angeles. It's like how Lawrence isn't that big and we still have no idea who are neighbors are. How on earth are all of these people buddy-buddy in one of the US's largest cities?
3) New Year's Eve is running ahead of this while Love Actually is lapping the ish out of it.
4) FWIW TSwift is in it which is super tight but I'd much rather see her sing.
I see why Maker treats this day like every other day lol,

Super Troopers
1) This movie has been solid for well over a decade. It's one of those movies that never has to grow on you and is just solid from the get-go. There's really not a bad scene in the movie. Well, actually, that syrup chugging scene wasn't that wild, but it reminded me of how @milhouse used to chug whole bottles of syrup so it was okay lol.
2) Likewise, there's like 23423 good quotes out of this movie. I've previously mentioned one, but there's a dozen more. "I don't want a large Farva." "I'll believe that when my shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbert." "WOULD YOU MOVE THAT GIGANTIC COTTON CANDY?!"
3) It even references Friday the 13th Part 3 when they get pulled over and eat the drugs at the beginning only to have the cops (at least initially) drive by. I'm sure this wasn't a coincidental reference lol.
4) These dudes should really gii on some more movies. That movie BEER FEST was also really tight. I dunno what happened to them.

1)
Obvi this movie appeals to me because of my love 4 tha law. Other movie
thrillers (A Few Good Men and My Cousin Vinny) are tight like this.
4) That law firm girl tho. She was OTC! Aye!!

Camp Hell
1) Uhhhhhhhhh. I should've known that this would be a budge movie after seeing the 9% on rotten tomatoes beforehand. Then again, many a prior movie has gotten mediocre rankings but been a Criterion Collection worthy movie.
2) Well, not this one. "Inspired by true events?" Well what was? Some kid going to Christian camp then leaving it after figuring out that he wasn't tuning into the whole religion thing? I'm awestruck that such events have ever happened. I kept thinking that something cray would happen but it never did. I mean, I guess the devil does jump out at the priest, but I'm not sure that this movie really re-invented the wheel on that one.
3) The dude on the movie cover from that horrible fbook movie is actually in the movie for like 15 seconds. How they managed to put his face on the cover of the movie when he just has a cameo role is beyond me.
4) And smh for that Shea girl from Buckwild not popping up in it. (Hopefully getting over that whole Shea thing before too long lol).
It was just so uneventful,

Buckwild
1) Wgbw. I know I usually don't review too many tv shows, but this one was OTC. Talk about walking into greatness.
2) As many of you hardcore blog fans already know, I obvi have love for rural country living so this show was pretty appealing to me. I'm really getting gungho about moving to rural Texas in the near future so Imma be tunin into this. I get this is in West Virginia, but whatever. Speaking of West Virginia, remember that time all those n00bs from KState got "welcome to huggieville" shirts? LOL.
3) That Shae girl >>>>>>>>>
It's like Jersey Shore only it doesn't suck lol,

Mama
This movie was OTC
1) It was light years ahead of the Paranormal movies in terms of scary shit popping out at you. Even when you knew something was about to happen it would still scare the bejesus out of you. It's also a movie I would think about putting into 3D just given how many times MAMA jumps out at tha screen.
2) It was also pretty spooky given how creepy the youngest girl kept acting. I've blogged before about why little kids creep the hell out of me. Maybe it's my fear of fatherhood lol.
3) All that being said I really wish they wouldn't have tried to explain a back story about why Mama was after them. It has a bunch of loopholes. Like why at the beginning of the movie did the dad try to kill the little girls? And why did he murder his wife? What did that have to do with Mama? And the ending was kind of jitsu when Mama just settled on jumping off tha cliff with the scary little girl. And why was the little girl eating all those bugs the whole time?
4) Random aside: I think I would've enjoyed the movie more sans all of the millions of rowdy juveniles that clog up PG-13 movies on a Friday night. It was like watching The Roommate on steroids.
Solid stuff. I'll be adding this to the blu-ray collection. MAMA!

Road Trip
Wgbw,
1) This was a staple of my movie collection back in my late high school days. We probably watched it a hundred times in Toromir's basement with tha colonel. Now it makes me a little reminiscent of my college days just b/c I'm (sort of) an adult now lol. It's not like we ever took any roadtrips (except that horrible one to Wichita and that one to Oregon that never panned out), but nonetheless this movie would be Buff's Criterion Collection for historical reasons.
2) It did spawn some great movie quotes. "Austin? Austin, Massachusetts?" "Did you kill a cheetah?" "I had sex last night. With a girl." "If you had a copy we could watch the copy." The window of opportunity is getting smaller by the day LOL.
3) This is one of those movies that would be solved by modern day tech problems. You wouldn't have to send your lf a VHS tape you could probably just skype or something. And you'd probably have a cell phone so you wouldn't get lost in the woods or cutoff from the rest of civilization.
4) Although I will say, it is accurate in that you could probably learn Western Civ in one night. Cramming without actually learning anything succinctly describes this one guy I knows entire undergraduate career lol.

ATM
1) I was pretty pumped for this movie because it's named after one of my heroic friends Andrew "Thursday" MacDonald (whose blog you can check out here). Nevertheless, it didn't turn out to be as wild as the real life ATM.
2) FWIW the girl is the real good looker from She's Out of My League. She's still pretty solid in this movie, although it was kinda lame that they killed her off by having her fall off the main dude's shoulders. I guess it wasn't that unexpected tho that she died that way. I mean, 90% of the movie takes place in an ATM. I guess they had to die some clever way since the hooded bad guy never really makes moves inside of it.
3) I know it's a common theme in these horror movies, but some common sense would have been a life saver here. Why doesn't he just drop his drunk friend off at home and have him order food instead? Why leave all your phones in the car outside the ATM? Why go to an ATM with a spooky guy outside of it? Why not just run away from the ATM in the other direction? For them working at this top notch firm, they really didn't think outside of the box (or ATM LOL) very well.
4) Clearly not as good as other movies that take place in enclosed spaces lol.

New Year's Eve
1) It's weird I coulda swore I already reviewed the movie Valentine's Day, but this is like the less than great sequel to it. NYE is almost always overrated and this movie was kind of in never ever land. I'm obvi not wild about NY (except for Ronnie lol), so I don't really know how things go down there, but it seems pretty dumb to go all nutzo over a ball dropping.
2) Ashton Kutcher's character is real tight. I think I share his contempt for most of the holidays so it was tight when he just ripped down all of those holiday decorations lol.
3) The cast was all pretty cray. I'm not wild about Sarah Jessica Parker playing mom in all these new movies. But how tight was it when Jon Bon Jovi was a main character? He should make it rain in more movies.
4) It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be. All the sub plots were pretty good and they didn't make the audience connect too many dots figuring out how everyone was connected to everyone else.
5) The ending was pretty goofy. I don't know why a narrator just pops in talking about hope smh.

Les Miserables
I don't know where to begin blog world. Actually, I know I'll get some hoola for tuning into this but at least it was better than the Dirty Projectors lol.
1) What on earth was going on with the casting in this one? Bruno was singing a bunch, Russell Crowe shouldn't have been singing, and I wish Amanda Seyfried would stay in RomComs and horror movies.
2) All of the singing parts were pretty smdh. The whole movie is one giant continuous song. How would you buy the soundtrack on this one and how does Alan know it? And there was just a wreck of songs where 4 people are singing at once but none of them are singing the same thing. It's like some bad group therapy session where everyone sees who can yell the loudest.
3) The scenes were also pretty random. It starts off with that prisoner guy then audibles to that girl who gets sad whose kid is missing. And then they audible to the French Revolution? As I've mentioned before, I'm no history major, but what was the point of including that? It's like they just lose, everyone gets sad, but then they sing about it at the end?
4) FWIW all the bw should take this with a grain of salt because I think I was lost most of the movie. When the movie got over I hadn't realized that Anne Hathaway's character had died mid-film. At the end when she walks out to grab the prisoner guy I couldn't figure out for the life of me why people were crying. They should have a subtitle that references that it's supposed to be heaven lol.
Kinda miserable lol. Get it?

Case 39
Been awhile since I've seen this one and been awhile since I've blogged about a horror movie lol.
1) Striking resemblance to The Orphan. It's like the middle class social advocate who wants to help someone out who eventually gets hoisted on their own petard. Wikipedia tells me that the girl from the Orphan was actually considered for the part of Lillith. And that ending too- both girls end up drowning while the lead character swims away.
2) It also reminded me a lot of The Butterfly Effect in the sense that the main character knows someone crazy who they later discover was right about all of the shenanigans the whole movie and not actually crazy. Only at the end of this movie she just gets to go back to reality which is kinda cray given that she burnt down her house, ran off a bridge, and generally was outta control.
3) It was pretty spooky but I thought the ending kinda dragged on for a little too long. Like, we get that she figures out that the girl is the antichrist but then it takes her forever to finally get some resolution to the whole thing. I don't really know how you resolve having custody of the antichrist, but it seemed like she coulda done it quicker.
4) Pretty spooky that this girl was the little girl from Cabin in the Woods.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #1: Jake Owen: The One That Got Away
Wgbw, #1 is THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY by Jake Owen. The song is top notch all the way around.
The music video is OTC, the lyrics are super solid, and the beat/tune is outta control.
This song also really resonated with me because he just sings about about this gal he meets in the summer who ends up taking off. The gal part doesn't really resonate with me, but this song came out right in the middle of tha summer/Fourth of July so it was very seasonably relevant too lol. This summer was pretty OTC bw.
2012 was a hell of year for good music, and this one just had everything going for it. Hard to say how proud I am of this song.

This song also really resonated with me because he just sings about about this gal he meets in the summer who ends up taking off. The gal part doesn't really resonate with me, but this song came out right in the middle of tha summer/Fourth of July so it was very seasonably relevant too lol. This summer was pretty OTC bw.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: Flashback to 2011
Wgbw. Before I unveil the #1 song, I thought I'd flashback to 2011's #1 song, Jason Derulo's IT GIRL.
Jason Derulo is pretty mediocre but this song was OTC. How nobody thinks this wasn't the best song of the last 5 years is befuddling to me.
I get some of the lyrics are LOL (more than the grammy award), but this is still just a top notch song.
Hopefully finding the IT GIRL soon lol.

The Not Top Songs of 2012
Before we get to the most anticipated song of 2012, I felt like it was fair to the fans to go over several songs that were no where near the top 10. In no particular order...
1) Gangnam Style. I don't even know where to begin. I get it's kinda crazy when they are dancing around and stuff but holy god is this club music too much for me. Random FYI, for the longest time I thought the line was "broken condom style." I was like why on earth would they want to sing about that? lol.
2) Call Me Maybe- FWIW this song appealed to me when it first got radio time in late Feb/early March. It seemed to go off the radio but then just came back full blast and then it started to drive me up the wall, go figure.
3) Justin Bieber- I've just heard a wreck of his songs on the radio. I dunno why ones they were but they definitely weren't worth tuning into.
In the next few days I'll put up an honorable mention list for those fans who still can't figure out what's gonna be #1 lol.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #2: Taylor Swift: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Wgbw, #2 is the tight WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER.
A brief historical background of my time with the song is partially necessary to explain its rating.
I knew she was releasing a new song but it was when I was gii at kickboxing, so I had to tune into some youtube version that was pretty bad. My hopes were high, as the first release off of her albums has generally been her best (see Tim McGraw, Love Story, Mine). When I heard the title I was a little scared off because it doesn't nearly has as much story to it as Mine or Tim McGraw did. It didn't start off on a great foot.
However, the song's just too catchy to let it slip down the pipe. I get that the lyrics aren't the most nuanced of all of her songs (lol I just realized I had this same thought 4 months ago), but it's still so solid.
The other variables that pushed it above songs 10-3 were that (1) it hasn't gotten old on me (LIKE EVER), (2) you can always picture someone in your past life that you would scream this song at (lol), & (3) my music website that keeps an objective score of how many times I've listened to a song has this running laps around every other one.
Really solid bw.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #3: The Band Perry: Postcard from Paris
Bw, it is with much admiration, but hesitation, that the number 3 song is Postcard from Paris. I really struggled with the top 3 but after weeks of contemplation I am pretty sure that this is #3.
This was pretty much my jam from like late April of this year till the end of the summer. FWIW it took me awhile to figure out exactly what the song was trying to say. I mean I get the whole song is a metaphor, but for awhile I thought she was saying that her new bf was top notch and she finally realized that the old one was a turd. Later I realized she's still hung up on the old bf even tho the new one is tight.
Not that any of that really had to do with me tunin into the song lol. I just liked asking over and over again if Bricker got the metaphor lol.
I still love belting out this song whenever it comes on the radio. Top notch stuff bw.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #4: Taylor Swift: All Too Well
Wgbw. Not much of a surprise here and I don't want to rehash stuff I've already let you tune into. I've already given a pretty solid review of the song here so we can skip that convo lol.
The only thing I would amend about my original review is that I was maybe a little too enamored with it at the time (which I obvi predicted). Don't get me wrong, those lyrics in this song are still the best lyrics of any song in the history of earth.
But I just think the song would've been better if right after the crescendo they woulda just got the song over with in the next 30 seconds or so (I.E. story of us was pretty good in that regard).
It was tough putting this at #4, but at the end of the day, 45 year old Buffalo will think this was the right call.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #5: Drake: The Motto
Wgbw. #5 on tha top 10 songs of 2012 is Drake's The Motto.
Drake's usually really hit or miss for me. The "Best I Ever Had" was solid and so was his part in Lil Wayne's "Right Above It".
The cray part is that I really didn't like this song when it first came out. I actually hated it. (Kinda like the word "cray" lol). I dunno what it was about it but I'm tuning in now. It's probably the tight part of the song that says YOU ALREADY KNOW THO.
Fwiw DMX doesn't like his haircut lol.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #6: Pitbull - International Love
Wgbw, #6 is the hit song INTERNATIONAL LOVE by Pitbull.
This song's lyrics are kinda goofy, but the beat is just OTC. I really don't think I could ever get bored listening to this song.
This has been one of the only pitbull songs that has had any staying power. The only other song of his I remember is that I Know You Want Me song. I only remember because Colt and I made it rain on the song when he picked me up from the airport before UFC 100 lol.
If only CB wasn't in it lol.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #7: Kip Moore: Beer Money
Wgbw, #7 is the hit summer song BEER MONEY from Kip Moore. A few things that all the tf will learn (or should know lol) tonight.
1) I obvi have a thing for country music. For you anti-country fans out there, I know it all sounds the same. I honestly couldn't tell you who sang this song before I looked it up. But it rules. I've been making it rain on this song ever since I heard it on the radio. Even if you hate country this song rules.
2) Music videos play a (pretty) large part in this countdown. If you haven't seen this video it's worth tuning into. A lot of this reason is that someday I'm going to relocate to the south (for a better explanation of my desire to go to south check out my reviews here and here.
3) Cowboy boots. Enough said.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #8: Ke$ha : Die Young
Wgbw, number 8 is Kesha's Die Young. As weird as it is to say this, I'm probably more embarrassed by this song than any other on the countdown lol.
I've never been a big Kesha fan and always thought most of her songs got played on the radio way too much. This one still plays on the radio all the time but I just haven't gotten bored with it yet. I probably should've articulated this earlier, but obvi part of the countdown is based on my ability to hear the song repeatedly without going too cray.
I can't really put my finger on what tunes me into this song, but something does. To all the haters: at least it's not in the top 5 lol.

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #9: Holy Ground
Wgbw, #9 is TSwift's Holy Ground.
I wasn't too wild about this song at first but it grew on me pretty quick. It's got that kind of upbeat pop dance thing going on. It really reminds me of something that Julia Stiles would bump in that sick movie 10 Things I Hate About You.
The other tight part is the whole "skip the conversation when you already know" part of this song. Well, yak.
Kind of a different take for her too. She usually doesn't rep singing songs about how she really enjoyed some relationship that's over. Pretty wild stuff.

Marriage and the courts
Not to go all political on everyone. But check out this sick marriage quote I found that references some movie lines. It's from tha 9th Cir. decision (
Perry v. Brown, 671 F.3d 1052, 1078 (9th Cir. 2012)) that's going up to the SC for review. Pretty good stuff bw,
"We need consider only the many ways in which we encounter the word 'marriage' in our daily lives and understand it, consciously or no, to convey a sense of significance. We are regularly given forms to complete that ask us whether we are "single" or "married." Newspapers run announcements of births, deaths, and marriages. We are excited to see someone ask, "Will you marry me?", whether on bended knee in a restaurant or in text splashed across a stadium Jumbotron. Certainly it would not have the same effect to see "Will you enter into a registered domestic partnership with me?". Groucho Marx's one-liner, "Marriage is a wonderful institution . . . but who wants to live in an institution?" would lack its punch if the word 'marriage' were replaced with the alternative phrase. So too with Shakespeare's "A young man married is a man that's marr'd," Lincoln's "Marriage is neither heaven nor hell, it is simply purgatory," and Sinatra's "A man doesn't know what happiness is until he's married. By then it's too late." We see tropes like "marrying for love" versus "marrying for money" played out [**16]again and again in our films and literature because of the recognized importance and permanence of the marriage relationship. Had Marilyn Monroe's film been called How to Register a Domestic Partnership with a Millionaire, it would not have conveyed the same meaning as did her famous movie, even though the underlying drama for same-sex couples is no different. The name 'marriage' signifies the unique recognition that society gives to harmonious, loyal, enduring, and intimate relationships. See Knight v. Super. Ct., 128 Cal. App. 4th 14, 31 (2005) ("[M]arriage is considered a more substantial relationship and is accorded a greater stature than a domestic partnership."); cf. Griswold, 381 U.S. at 486 ."

Top 10 Songs of 2012: #10: Taylor Swift: Eyes Open
Well no surprises here BW. #10 is TSwift's tight song Eyes Open from the soundtrack for that horrible hunger games movie/book.
It's really not one of those songs that you hear and gii on right away, but it's pretty catchy.
I think the song really resonates with me because it reflects my general stutter-stepping in life where I'm usually eager but hesitant at the same time (some deep stuff lol). It's one of those songs that's tight to meditate to lol.

Top 10 Songs of 2012
Wgbw, sorry for all the delays again. I would've (would be) blogging more but the whole Halo 4 thing has really been occupying my free time. I wish I could promise you that these posts would be more frequent, but given my OTC skills at Halo I'd be lying.
Anywho, I've never counted down the top 10 songs (well besides Taylor Swift ones lol). So my bfs, this year I'm going to do the top 10 songs of 2012 (and no worries, it's not all TSwift lol). I'm still figuring out the top of the pile, but pretty sure I have 10 songs picked out. In about an hour I'll post the honorable mentions that just made the cut!
***I should preface this by saying I have a horrible taste in music. Just know you've been warned lol.****
