Annabelle: Creation

Sorry for all of tha delays bw.

1) What a great movie. Tha prequel to tha 2014 hit Annabelle, this really did a great job of connecting tha dots. JJ and I even saw it in tha same theater that I saw tha first one in lol.

2) I thought all of the movies associated with the original Conjuring have done a solid job connecting tha movies together. This one was especially top notch. Tha movie obvi explains how Annabelle got associated with tha doll, but tha end shows how the little girl who goes missing ends up being tha estranged daughter killer from tha first movie.

3) And you horror movie buffs may have gotten the reference when tha daughter gets handed tha old school doll that tha actual movie was based on.

4) Probably tha best part was the reference to the Nun when they are flipping through the photos. That Nun was scary as nuts in the second Conjuring movie, and there's no wonder they are making a whole movie out of her.

Very blessed,

Bye Bye Man

Wgbw, This below post doesn't have much to say because honestly, this movie speaks for itself. I've re-written this post a bunch, but can't find tha words to say.

1) This movie was awesome. JJand I saw it in the tha finest city in west Johnson County and tha atmosphere was almost umatched. Initially, this movie didn't have much going for it. But, JJ and I saw a preview at that godawful Blair Witch movie and decided that we needed to tune in.

2) And, TBH, it is a (much better) knock off of tha hit movie CANDYMAN.

3) 2011 UncleBuff is a little more skeptical of all of these shenanigans than 2017 Buffalo, but in all reality, this is scary as nuts. I mean, you go into that house and then you die. And every time you think about his name, you die.  If you even think his name...you die. [Random side note- UB has been living by himself for a min now, and was concerned to go to tha laundry room after this. That should tell you how scary it was lol.]

4) DON'T SAY IT DON'T THINK IT. DON'T SAY IT DON'T THINK IT.

BYE BYE MAN,

Unfriended

Like I've previously said (not) about the Artist and the new Chucky movie, it had me on my feet clapping by the end. What a tight movie.

1) I actually bought this like a year ago to watch with a lady friend, but you all know how long those usually last lol. Anywho, the plot is basically that these 5 bozos posted a video of a drunk girl at school who (wasn't on team Mavs) then killed herself. A year later she comes back to haunt them.

2) I think it was pretty top notch and creative. I mean, lots of movies have tried to do the social media/ point-of-view footage, but never like this. When I first turned it on I thought it would get lame since you are just watching it through that Blair chick's computer, but it really was pretty unique. It also didn't get too gory which was solid.

3) Also- what a horrible group of juveniles lol. One dude admits to putting roofies in someones drink, raping them, and then having her get an abortion. One of them stole $800 from the drug dealer who got ratted out by the third person who was cheating on his bestfriend's lady friend, who was the chick who filmed the girl passed out and wrecked the other chick's car when she was drunk.

4) Probably the biggest lesson of the movie is that juvenile crime needs to be stopped early. It's basically a big public service announcement about the dangers of underage drinking, not teaching kids about consent, and selling drugs. Kids and their social media SMH LOL

Annabelle

1) Bow howdy what a scary movie. From all of tha scenes where the devil just jumped out at you Mama-style, to tha scenes involving the crazy Annabelle woman running and screaming, it was super terrifying. Tha teenagers in tha theaters kept looking at me like I was a weenie lol.

2) It was odd that tha doll didn't actually ever move on screen (except for that one really scary ass part when it stood up and you saw tha demon figure behind it.) Maybe that made it extra spooky since, unlike Chucky, they didn't have a chance to make him talk and say something goofy, or make him move around all jitsu like.

3) And tha story was really well put together. It starts off with tha same initial scene involving Annabelle from The Conjuring. Then they do a flashback from a year earlier to detail how tha doll got in tha case in tha Conjuring. And at tha end they show tha old lady buying tha nurses tha doll.

4) It was odd why tha people in tha movie ever thought buying this spooky ass doll was ever a good idea. I mean, it looks creepy as fuck and it is ginormous so you know it could be pretty cray.

Top notch stuff. As you can see from all tha tags on it, it had tha whole 9 yards of a good scary movie.

Friends: the One with the Halloween Party

Bw, as it may or may not surprise you, my favorite month of tha year is October. Now I know everyone gets that I take time off of work to lay around watching scary movies every October. But someone once asked me, "buff, what do you do the other 11 months of the year?" And without hesitation I reply, "fall asleep to the hit tv show Friends."

The one (obvi) very minor drawback to the show is that it only references Halloween a few times in the show and only has 1 episode that is about halloween (I'll bet that poser Maddie can't name tha other few smh lol). That being said, here's the run down:

1) Obvi a really solid episode all tha way around. Mona's in it which is tight. She's the second chick that I wish wouldn't have gotten kicked off tha show (besides Kathy, man was she tight - and speaking of which, anyone get that Chandler's dressed like the character in Kathy's favorite book - start taking notes Maddie).

2) This is also the last major literary work that Sean Penn can be seen in that doesn't actually suck. If you don't believe me you should go check out This Must be the Place.

3) Except for the absence of any scary movies going on in the background, a good solid effort here,

Curse of Chucky

1) Super pumped that one of the original horror villains that ruined the better part of my adolescence has returned. And not returned in the comedic-horror genre, but an attempt at returning to Chucky's roots. This musical ensemble (lol @ the academy awards) was so tight b/c the music was super scary tha whole time. Tight they brought back tha original voice of Chucky too.

2) And it wasn't just a shitty remake. At first I thought Chucky was just gonna run a train on some strangers. Then tha movie explains the family that Chucky was terrorizing was actually a family that (25 years ago) he was wrecking havoc on with when he ran from the police during the opening scene of the original Child's Play. Talk about some sequencing. This is light years better than the connections that the Halloween movies tried to make between all of those sequels.

 3) And what a great ending. Jennifer Tilly (sp?) returned to send Chucky back to Alice where he started to steal her soul.Flash forward 6 months, Chucky gets sent back as a package to THE ORIGINAL ANDY BARCLAY (who made a cameo in the movie). THAT IS HOW YOU SET UP A SEQUEL.

4) Hard to say how good I thought this was. In terms of how low my expectations were for a straight to DVD reboot, this couldn't have gotten any better. It got scary again, and managed to both reference and fit in time wise with the rest of the sequels.

As that one idiot said about the awful movie the Artist, "The [] ending had me on my feet cheering throughout the final credits. I can't wait to see it again."

This is the End

1) Not really (at all) a horror movie, but it does center around the apocalypse and the devil coming out to get everyone. And it played off tha famous scene in The Exorcist. Also when Jonah Hill got taken over by that devil it was almost a verbatim reenactment of Rosemary's Baby.

2) Really overall pretty solid. It was funny, most of the cast was good (although James Franco had been kinda ruined for me ever since I saw Freaks and Geeks). For the most part, it's kind of hard to go wrong with this cast in a movie.

3) And at least most of the people that would have ruined the movie got sucked into the ground before they had a chance to. That Aziz guy and that Mindy girl drive me bonkers. You almost find yourself cheering for the big hole in the ground to get rid of the annoying famous people before the movie really takes off lol.

4) These end of the world movies have really been solid (see also Cabin in the Woods).

Evil Dead (2013) - Live Tweets

Kind of a unique review tonight bw. I'm gonna review it just based off of my and Alan's live tweets of it from back in tha day lol.

1) Here are some of Alan's gems on my computer that summed up my thoughts on the movie pretty well

a) ""they aren't just dead...they are evil dead" @*buff* trying to sell tha Evil Dead"

b) "theres not even a plot to this movie." --@*buff*. Is he talking about Annie Hall or Evil Dead?

c) "You know when Woody Allen went back to kindergarten? Don't start asking for explanations on why they do things"--@*buff*

d) "OH MY GOD OOOOOOHHH"--@*buff*

2) And, some of my own tweets (and alan's actual thoughts)

a)  "to be fair. this movie is better than annie hall 20 minutes in." - @alan

b) "holy god this is scary "

c)  "luvin tha ending credits flashing back to tha original "

and after the movie

d) "as a random aside to everything: KState sucks"  LOL

Maybe I'll review it for real soon lol,

House at the End of the Street

1) I know I've been giving out some pretty generous grades lately, but dear god this was this good. After undergoing the routine 24 hour waiting period before letting the world know my thoughts, I'm still convinced this is one of the best horror movies in the last few years (obvi with Mama and Cabin in the Woods).

2) Crazy endings like the one in The Uninvited are really hit or miss. When I was first tuning into this I was just hoping that she didn't turn out to be the killer, or have her just be imagining someone next door all the time. When (*spoiler alert*) I finally put two and two together that the kid had just been kidnapping people to replace his sister my jaw almost dropped. It was that good of a story twist. Top notch stuff.

3) It almost took it too far. The very end where there's the flashback to his parents pretending that he is actually his sister was unnecessary. I also haven't figured out what the symbolism of the tree was all about.

4) Jennifer Lawrence has been pretty OTC so far. I actually wanna tune into that Silver Lining movie but still haven't gotten a chance to do so.

How this got an 11% on rotten tomatoes is beyond me,

2008 NCAA Championship DVD

1) In the spirit of today's game and March generally I thought I'd review tha final four DVD of tha 08 championship. Obvi not a review of tha actual game lol. We all know how that would turn out.

2) It's really pretty solid except that it only includes a portion of the UNC/KU game. To top it off the part they cut out is part of that run where we went up 40 to 12 or whatever that beating was. I think Petey has the whole game somewhere but it's sad it's not on here.

3) I was actually at tha final four that year (yeahbuddy). It always makes it kinda weird to watch the video of the game because are seats were on the other side so it always looks backwards lol.

4) Still a pretty solid way to get pumped up for KU games.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (Producer's Cut)

1) I felt like a horror n00b for awhile about this one. For all of my love of the Halloween movies, I never realized that a Producer's Cut originally got filmed for the original movie. I guess really you'd have to google the halloween movies to figure this out, but nonetheless I was smh.

2) Turns out it's a lot weirder but better than the old one. The other one still confuses me about the whole cult thing. I mean, this one is still pretty cray in the explanation that they make up for it, but at least it makes more sense than the theatrical one.

3) The part that really gives me the willies is the storyline about MM being the baby's dad. Doesn't really seem like MM's M.O.

4) All in all it's pretty tight. I mean, I sit around everyday and usually watch at least one of these Halloween movies. It's tight that there's another one I didn't even know about \o/

(oh p.s. I think this is only available on youtube, I don't think they actually released this one).

Billy Madison

1) It's a real tight movie. Maybe I personally identify with it a little bit too in that after I graduated high school I realized I hadn't ever really learned anything. I dunno how many times we read McBeth or went over what that chemistry mole thing was but I'm still out to lunch on all of it.

2) This is also when Adam Sandler was hitting his peak as an actor/sort-of-musician. This and Happy Gilmore ran laps around anything he's done in the last 20 years.

3) And it was home to some tight quotes. "Chlorophyll? More like BOREophyll." And obvi one of the tightest elongated quotations in motion picture history .

4) And Ms. Vaughn?! AYE!!!

Buckwild

1) Wgbw. I know I usually don't review too many tv shows, but this one was OTC. Talk about walking into greatness.

2) As many of you hardcore blog fans already know, I obvi have love for rural country living so this show was pretty appealing to me. I'm really getting gungho about moving to rural Texas in the near future so Imma be tunin into this. I get this is in West Virginia, but whatever. Speaking of West Virginia, remember that time all those n00bs from KState got "welcome to huggieville" shirts? LOL.

3) That Shae girl >>>>>>>>>

It's like Jersey Shore only it doesn't suck lol,

Mama

This movie was OTC

1) It was light years ahead of the Paranormal movies in terms of scary shit popping out at you. Even when you knew something was about to happen it would still scare the bejesus out of you. It's also a movie I would think about putting into 3D just given how many times MAMA jumps out at tha screen.

2) It was also pretty spooky given how creepy the youngest girl kept acting. I've blogged before about why little kids creep the hell out of me. Maybe it's my fear of fatherhood lol.

3) All that being said I really wish they wouldn't have tried to explain a back story about why Mama was after them. It has a bunch of loopholes. Like why at the beginning of the movie did the dad try to kill the little girls? And why did he murder his wife? What did that have to do with Mama? And the ending was kind of jitsu when Mama just settled on jumping off tha cliff with the scary little girl. And why was the little girl eating all those bugs the whole time?

4) Random aside: I think I would've enjoyed the movie more sans all of the millions of rowdy juveniles that clog up PG-13 movies on a Friday night. It was like watching The Roommate on steroids.

Solid stuff. I'll be adding this to the blu-ray collection. MAMA!

Taylor Swift- Red Review

First as random aside- was I the only one to get this early? I preordered it off Amazon and it got here 2 days early. I feel bad for all of those teenagers that have to wait till Monday lol. Anywho, here are my initial thoughts after tuning into this for 24 hours (this will be the only detour from horror movies the rest of October too lol).

1) Overall super solid. It's hard to say where it ranks amongst her previous 3 albums but it's obvi top notch.

2) It has a pretty solid mix of super pop songs with her usual sad, slow breakup songs. I'm not crazy about her 2 duets that are on the album but I get that she might like Snow Patrol in real life.

3) Omitting the previously released singles she had off of the album, it's pretty obvi that she'll release '22', Starlight, and Stay Stay Stay. 22 is pretty catchy, but I'm not too wild about the other 2.

4) It's kind of an odd thing about my music taste (well besides that it's usually not very good lol), but I really dig sad slow breakup songs when I'm not going through some breakup. I dunno why I dig them when I'm in a good place in my life but I do. This has probably been one of the tightest months of my life, so I'm really tuning into 'All Too Well' and 'I Almost Do'. The lyrics on them are really good and they're obvi super slow and sad LOL.

Obvi you know this would get a good grade,

Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives

WGBW, got a special post for you tonight. I'm re-reviewing the movie that was the blog's first ever post: Friday the 13th Part 6. Obvi my blogging skills are light years ahead of where they were then (lol) but for how good this movie is I never truly gave it the credit it deserved.

1) The biggest historical role for this movie was that it saved the Friday the 13th franchise from that really mediocre Friday the 13th Part 5 movie. Not that I was tuning into these movies at the time, but if I was I would've been so reluctant to go see this in the theaters after the part 5 movie. This movie is just literally running laps around the previous one.

2) I'd echo all of my sentiment from my post from 2 years ago. They rep that it's on Friday the 13th, Jason does do a pretty consistent job of going to town, and I still have a crush on the girl in this movie. I probably didn't rep that last point enough during my first review: it's really tight that this movie has a somewhat romcom flavor to it. How tight it must be for that Tommy guy. I mean, you get terrorized by Jason, locked up for the latter part of a decade, and then get thrown into jail only to be saved by the really good looking daughter of the sheriff. I know I think my life is tuning up but Tommy is probably one upping me.

3) This is the only Friday the 13th movie with no nudity, so if you're looking for some (sort of) clean family fun here it is.

4) Even the ending is tight. Given that it's the 6th movie of the series it's not ground breaking that there will be another sequel but I'm glad they didn't pretend to finish him off for good.

Save the Last Dance

1) I realized I never reviewed this movie before and that is a fucking shame. This movie rules.

2) Part of the reason I have such a thing for it is obvi Julia Stiles. I'd put a link up to all of my reviews on here where I rep her but there's already been too many. Just do a search on the side bar and you'll see <3. Sean Patrick Thomas is also super tight too. He's obvi blowing it up in this movie but also in Halloween Resurrection.

3) The weird part is that I generally have zero interest in artsy kind of movies (see The Artist) or (if I ever had the desire to review them) Adaptation or Midnight in Paris. This one isn't so much artsy but it does involve ballet lol.

4) It's also weird how old all the "high schoolers" are in it.  I know a lot of movies revolving around high schools have students that are actually way too old to actually be in high school, but I'm pretty sure Sean Patrick Thomas was like 30 in this.

4) The best scene is where they first dance to that tight song in the club in the beginning. If only I could make moves like that lol.

Good stuff,

Taylor Swift: We are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Wgbw, some of my most popular posts have revolved around my celebrity crush Taylor Swift. In the spirit of that, I thought I'd review her new song.

1) I think it's clear that she's probably abandoned her country music background. I know this had been writing on the wall for awhile, but it's still kind of a bummer. Love story still had a country background, and even Mine (sort of) did. This is a total pop song.

2) Don't get me wrong, I'm still tuning in. Obvi my love for her music developed when she was a country singer and I still have a huge thing for country music. I just hope that maybe part of her new album will still pay heed to her roots.

3) I know the lyrics to this song aren't super nuanced either and they are obviously targeted at a younger audience (who will like the shit out of them). But I haven't ran into too many people who have heard the song 4-5 times who don't get hooked by the catchy beat of it.

Not what I was hoping for out of her first song off the new album, but still super solid,

American Pie

1) Pretty solid. I remember back in the day (circa 8th grade) when this movie was pretty taboo and nobody's parents wanted them to go see it (and obvi for good reason). Nevertheless it's pretty solid overall.

2) This movie's historic in that it was the breakout role for Sean William Scott. I don't care if you hate these movies, he's funny enough to make them good all by himself. They should've plugged him into The Artist and just had him scream obscenities the whole time. That would have made that stupid movie tight.

3) Come to think of it, it's running laps around the second one. Actually the second one just sucks. That Kevin guy gets all sad for no reason and the whole time they just reminisce about high school. And then they scrapbook about that stupid party. I guess I'm digressing, really a point for another post.

4) Random FYI, all of the music in all of these movies was on Bricker's ipod for years. He always acts like he doesn't know which band is singing which song but we all know he's lying lol. (All American Rejects, Sum 41 LOL).

Solid,

A

The Cabin in the Woods

1) I've started doing this thing where I try to sit around for a day after a movie to collect my thoughts about it so I don't jump to any conclusions lol. After a few days, I've figured out the movie is pretty solid. I actually feel (sort of) qualified to review this since I actually have seen 1400 horror movies and get (most of) the references made in the movie.

2) I was really impressed with all the shout-outs to other horror movies. The whole cabin/scary trees had to have been a reference to The Evil Dead, the 3 spooky looking people with masks was The Strangers, the set up with the creepy guy on the side of the road has been in almost every Friday the 13th movie, and finally (and most obviously) that pinhead look alike from Hellraiser. I think if I rewatched it I'd probably see a wreck of more people popping out.

3) I think the part that made me think it was goofy the most was just the whole 'there are evil gods who need a specific sacrifice or we're going to destroy the earth'. It also just seems implausible that these experiments were being deployed all throughout the world and not one of them was successful. You think these dudes would concentrate a lot more at work if the fate of the earth depended on it.

4) That being said it was pretty tight. Super scary creatures in it, mixed in humor really well and generally was a good critical look at horror movies while accentuating what was good in them.

I'll be tuning in,

A
