Cult of Chucky

Happy Friday tha 13th bw. I have some more reviews to do this October, but have been pretty busy lol.

1) First of all, I didn't think this many sequels in could be so good. I mean, tha last one was top notch, so who knew how they would top it.

2) I love that tha original Andy returned, but that they continued to build off of tha story line from tha last movie. The brief gist is that after Andy got Chucky mailed to him, he basically locked tha doll up and tortures it. However, tha main girl from tha last movie is now in a mental institution due to everyone thinking that she [but obvi actually Chucky] killed everyone in tha prior movie.

3) Tha only goofy part is obvi that Chucky has now learned how to get himself into other dolls which is how they wreck havoc on everyone in tha mental hospital. At first I was skeptical, but it's a pretty good plot twist. Although obvi it will have trouble if they make another movie.

4) All of tha kills were pretty crazy, it was only 90 minutes long, and it connected well back to all tha other movies. Not much to say, but it was really solid.

(oh ps- if you watch tha non-Netflix version, tha foster sister from tha second movie comes back at tha end. Really top notch stuff.)

The Visit

The good thing about not blogging for a year is that there is no shortage of material to go to town on.

1) I saw this hit 2015 movie in theaters. These two kids go to the boonies to visit their grandparents who are estranged from their mom. The grandparents start doing all this weird stuff and it goes from there.

2) I don't know why the kids don't just obey their grandparents and not go to the basement or stay up past 9:30. Seems like a pretty simple rule to follow that would have avoided all of these shenanigans. (I wouldn't want to go in some scary basement and lord knows I can't stay up past 9:30.) I mean, they see their grandma naked, projectile vomiting, and him using the tool-shed. I'd do as I was told and stay in my room lol.

3) The whole "cell phones don't work in this part of the country" subplot is getting kind of goofy in 2016. The only place I know where cell phones don't work is at Memorial Stadium during packed KU FOOTBALL games.

4) And really, how irresponsible is the mom? You haven't spoken to your parents in a bajillion years and you send your kids there with no oversight. The sequel will be social services taking the kids into state custody lol.

Overall pretty good. I didn't see the crazy ending coming and it was pretty short lol.

Annabelle

1) Bow howdy what a scary movie. From all of tha scenes where the devil just jumped out at you Mama-style, to tha scenes involving the crazy Annabelle woman running and screaming, it was super terrifying. Tha teenagers in tha theaters kept looking at me like I was a weenie lol.

2) It was odd that tha doll didn't actually ever move on screen (except for that one really scary ass part when it stood up and you saw tha demon figure behind it.) Maybe that made it extra spooky since, unlike Chucky, they didn't have a chance to make him talk and say something goofy, or make him move around all jitsu like.

3) And tha story was really well put together. It starts off with tha same initial scene involving Annabelle from The Conjuring. Then they do a flashback from a year earlier to detail how tha doll got in tha case in tha Conjuring. And at tha end they show tha old lady buying tha nurses tha doll.

4) It was odd why tha people in tha movie ever thought buying this spooky ass doll was ever a good idea. I mean, it looks creepy as fuck and it is ginormous so you know it could be pretty cray.

Top notch stuff. As you can see from all tha tags on it, it had tha whole 9 yards of a good scary movie.

House at the End of the Street

1) I know I've been giving out some pretty generous grades lately, but dear god this was this good. After undergoing the routine 24 hour waiting period before letting the world know my thoughts, I'm still convinced this is one of the best horror movies in the last few years (obvi with Mama and Cabin in the Woods).

2) Crazy endings like the one in The Uninvited are really hit or miss. When I was first tuning into this I was just hoping that she didn't turn out to be the killer, or have her just be imagining someone next door all the time. When (*spoiler alert*) I finally put two and two together that the kid had just been kidnapping people to replace his sister my jaw almost dropped. It was that good of a story twist. Top notch stuff.

3) It almost took it too far. The very end where there's the flashback to his parents pretending that he is actually his sister was unnecessary. I also haven't figured out what the symbolism of the tree was all about.

4) Jennifer Lawrence has been pretty OTC so far. I actually wanna tune into that Silver Lining movie but still haven't gotten a chance to do so.

How this got an 11% on rotten tomatoes is beyond me,

A

Halloween Night

1) Alright blog world, this is hopefully the last really mediocre movie I review this month. I know I have a checkered past but I'm really trying to get better after this lol.

2) I thought this would be okay because it seemed to kind of parallel the original Halloween movie: the guy gets out of an asylum and comes and wrecks havoc on Halloween night. Sounds good but this one went straight to DVD for a reason.

3) Almost every death in the movie happened the exact same way. This guy pops up at the party and everybody thinks he's just horsing around since he's wearing a mask so they just joke with him until he KO's them. I mean, using that once or twice was okay but it was almost the entire movie.

4) And how ridiculous was the end? A guy who looks like bigfoot is walking down an empty interstate wearing only a priest-robe with a paper plate tied onto his head with an upside down smiley face on it and this guy just decides to give him a ride?

Go back and re-read that last sentence. It was as ridiculous to type as the ending of the movie was lol.

Re-Animator

1) Pretty solid overall. I was kind of skeptical after Mick recommended that I review it, but it actually turned out pretty good.

2) Not too many movies have embarked upon the reanimation theme and this one was tight. In an odd way it kind of reminded me of Pet Semetary because of that cat that comes back to life all crazy.

3) The original crazy guy does seem to just make poor choices during the movie. Why would you inject someone bigger and stronger than you with some goop that makes them come back to life to wallop on you? And when all these resurrections are going poorly his solution is to just inject faster lol.

4) Speaking of poor choices, why did the original med student let him come live with him? He's creepy, weirds out your lady friend, and only wants to pay in cash. Although I will say I'm not really one to talk. The other day I called direct TV to ask them about the length of their contract and 30 minutes later I had signed up for a 2 year premium package lol.

5) I forgot that that awful movie American Beauty mentions this when the two guys are smoking.

Gothika

1) I know I get confused easily, but this one was a barnburner. I mean, so there's this psychiatrist who sees this little girl in the road one night and swerves out of the way. She wakes up and is in her own psych ward and is informed she murdered her husband. She (obvi) has no recollection of it.

2) Thats when it gets confusing. There's like this ghost running around the psych ward who randomly makes appearances. Somehow the dudes who killed the people can summon the ghost somehow. And the ghost can somehow make her blackout? This ghost doesn't make any sense.

3) And why would they put her back in with her patients? That wouldn't make any sense.

4) I mean, I guess it was a semi-unique plot at the time, and Halle Berry was in it. Overall it was just confusing and didn't make any sense.

The Shining

Sorry bw for the delay, this weeks just been busy lol.

1) This movie was really super long. I get that it probably takes him awhile to have time to go apeshit and stuff but it seemed a little long even at that.

2) I think the whole point of the movie should have been that everybody gets cabin fever and starts going crazy. I'm confused how the little kid starts having all the visions before they even go to the hotel or what that one dude gets some vision to return to the hotel to check up on people. It would've made more sense if all of these shenanigans happened once they got to the hotel.

3) This shit was scary. Those 2 little girls were scary as hell, and so was the little imaginary Tommy kid. I don't think I'd get too scared of Jack Nicholson going crazy or anything, but those little kids were sure spooky.

4) The book was a lot better. Actually I never read the book lol.

5) I've sat around and thought about that picture at the end and I'm still not sure what to think of it. If it's really some haunted hotel then maybe it just got put there after he made it rain. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. I mean, they've got all this time to kill (pun lol), but they don't ever notice it, so it probably has to have come after he died. Maybe it's a memorial or something, who knows.

The Ward

1) Pretty big letdown. I was expecting a really tight movie but maybe had my hopes too high.

2) The biggest kicker was the ending :( I thought The Uninvited and Identity were pretty good, but (*spoiler alert*) the same ending here was pretty disappointing. I get she's in a mental institution, but I don't understand how she got this out of her mind. I mean, she imagines someone chasing her and killing everyone when she's the one that's doing it? But then she's not actually killing anyone since they are all make believe? It especially doesn't make any sense because at the end the ghost chick jumps out at her.

3) I think it could have been okay if the ghost girl at least looked scary. I mean, I get scared of dolls, masks, all kinds of stuff, but she wasn't even a little creepy.

4) The chick is the dude's girlfriend in the Stepfather. She's a looker.

Kind of a letdown for a Carpenter comeback,

Session 9

1) Had a pretty legit story line. The guy found all these old tapes of someone with multiple personalities and started listening to them. Turns out he actually has multiple personalities and was making it rain on everyone the whole time. Hell of a good set up for that.

2) FWIW the guy shouldn't have been dicking around with the tapes and stuff. If I was cleaning up asbestos in an old haunted mental institution I would stay clear of any spooky stuff laying around, that's for sure.

3) They should do more movies in old asylums and stuff. I'm still pretty pumped to see The Ward, which should be quite a bit scarier than this one.

4) The one guy off of Sweet Home Alabama is on here. He was a lot better in that lol.

It had a sound story line and all, but not enough scares,

The Uninvited (2009)

1) Top notch stuff. I thought the twist at the end was money but I always forget that The Sixth Sense [Blu-ray] already rolled this out years before lol.

2) I don't really understand the whole mental patient thing. I get that she's just imagining the sister there and stuff but what was up with the Mildred thing? She thought the stepmom was named that but it was just the chick who lived next to her in the hospital? I guess I missed why that was so significant.

3) Some parts don't make a whole lot of sense. I don't get the little red haired girl that keeps popping up since the stepmom never actually killed anyone.

4) The rest of my thoughts are escaping me now. I'm really hungry and kinda dehydrated lol.

Identity

Not sure it's a horror movie but really tight

1) The twist is some crazy shit. I'da never guessed that it was just a figment of that dude's imagination. I guess it sucks to be one of the people at the hotel since they're just imaginary.

2) It's even good despite the fact that John Cusack is in it and he's pretty much never in any good movie. It's good that he stepped out of that weird indy role for this.

3) Amanda Peet's in it and shes tight. It's sick how she was the last one that survived.

B+ only because it's not technically a horror movie
