The Addams Family (1991)

WGBW, Uncle Buffalo is back. I know I constantly apologize for tha lack of delays but it is tha second greatest day of tha year, and I wouldn't forget about this.

1) Despite 24 year old Buff's earlier thoughts, this movie is definitely running laps around tha second movie. Tha first one obvi started it all, it avoided that wretched gremlin from tha second, and they play golf most of tha movie.

2) To be honest, this whole movie freaked me out for the better part of my childhood. Obvi, not as much as Child's Play 2, but really pretty close. I mean, there is a fucking hand that can be anywhere that just randomly messes with you; tha Lurch guy could put a beating on anyone; and two really creepy children and tha spooky uncle.

3) FWIW, this movie was also tight because it was tha start of Christina Ricci's acting career. She has never really been in anything tight (except for that one ep of tha Good Wife obvi), but she is pretty top notch.

4) This movie always has a special place in my <3 due to its constant airtime over tha Halloween season. It also had a fucking pinball machine that was in every arcade lol.

Red Dragon

1) Probably my favorite out of tha other two main Hannibal movies. Obvi it's the prequel to Silence of the Lambs and it's pretty tight when they show how Hannibal got caught and where they lead into Clarice meeting with him.

2) The movie had top notch suspense i.e. tha part where he doesn't actually shoot himself and Edward Norton gets that phone call that the Toothfairy is coming after his family. Really some top 10 ish. And it was spooky on top of that. The scenes where the family's eyes have all been taken out and pretty cray.

3) The whole part where Phillip Seymour Hoffman had to play a victim wasn't terribly fitting and seemed out of funk with tha rest of tha movie tho.

4) I remember tha debate camp got in trouble back in tha day after someone played this movie at movie night when it obvi wasn't pg-13 material lol.

Carrie (2013)

Sorry for the delays bw. That jitsu Nov/Dec/January combo is almost over lol.

1) I reviewed tha original movie  back in tha day. It's still got that same overwhelming gross scene at tha beginning lol. Kind of hard to really recover from that.

2) Besides that it was really pretty solid. The girl from Kick-Ass was actually a lot better than I anticipated she would be. I guess I just figured she'd look like she was 5 and wouldn't be able to pull off tha creepy Carrie bit but she was solid. That really good looking chick from tha 70s wasn't magically re-casted it which was expected but also unfortuante lol.

3) The special effects were also pretty sub-par for a movie that was remade. Like that part where the mean chick's head flies through the car or whenever glass was shattering generally. I dunno if that was supposed to indicate that Carrie was controlling it or if it was just poor special effects lol.

4) On a side note, I don't really get tha importance that people attach to prom in these movies. Having been a prom king myself, I can tell you it's actually not that cool lol.

Besides all of my complaining, it was actually really good

Friday Night Lights (the movie obvi)

I've been generally ignoring the Awards tonight given that they never hone in on the movies I generally rep lol. That said..

1) I've never been wild about dramas, but sports dramas seem to keep my attention (see Rocky IV and The Fighter).

2) Probably the most appealing part to me about this movie is that it reflects my life long goal to relocate to a rural Texas community that lives for Friday night football games. I'm still on the fence about living in either Midland or Odessa, but I'd bet almost anyone that within the decade I'll have settled down there. \o/

3) Sort of relevant to that, my love of country music had me surprised that Tim McGraw plays such a mean, overbearing father. I mean, it makes sense that he lives in rural Texas, but I just wish he wasn't so riled up all the time.

4) For everyone paying super close attention, the coach's wife was also a doctor in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

Flight

1) It was pretty good. I'm not wild about flying, but the drinking/legal/chick thing appealed to me lol. Speaking of which, I'm on day 9 of sobriety and feeling pretty good. I get why Denzel is so content at the end of the movie lol.

2) Why is it that so many Denzel movies have these really long pauses in the middle of them with nothing going on? John Q, Man on Fire, and the hit movie HE GOT GAME were like this. I wonder if he specifically requests these long winded scenes where he just walks around to music lol.

3) I coulda gone without all those heroin injection scenes. The underside of my arms gives me the willies generally, but those scenes were intense.

4) I thought about writing a bunch of shenanigans about how the defense attorney was out to lunch but I get that those posts don't really appeal to the demographic audience of the blog lol.

5) I had some love for the movie too because it took me back to the greatest 2 weeks of my life- the ADI 2K6. There were always a bunch of airline crews that stayed at our hotel who loved to party. Hopefully nothing like this actually happened on tha airline smh.

Fracture

1) Obvi this movie appeals to me because of my love 4 tha law. Other movie thrillers (A Few Good Men and My Cousin Vinny) are tight like this.

2) This movie had pretty solid plot twists too. That one guy gii with the victim was pretty cray at trial. And I could never figure out what happened to the gun until the end. I did manage to figure out that double jeopardy thing tho lol.

3) Speaking of the ending, when you think about it, it’s kinda irresponsible by the DA. I mean, the first confession gets thrown out b/c that one guy is biased b/c he was gii with the girl. Then they have the DA who violates the restraining order and stalks the guy go take his second confession and leaves disinterested police officers outside. In the new trial the judge would be like SMDH, didn’t you do this last time? Why would you take the confession? You gonna testify smh?

4) That law firm girl tho. She was OTC! Aye!!

Road Trip

Wgbw,

1) This was a staple of my movie collection back in my late high school days. We probably watched it a hundred times in Toromir's basement with tha colonel. Now it makes me a little reminiscent of my college days just b/c I'm (sort of) an adult now lol. It's not like we ever took any roadtrips (except that horrible one to Wichita and that one to Oregon that never panned out), but nonetheless this movie would be Buff's Criterion Collection for historical reasons.

2) It did spawn some great movie quotes. "Austin? Austin, Massachusetts?" "Did you kill a cheetah?" "I had sex last night. With a girl." "If you had a copy we could watch the copy." The window of opportunity is getting smaller by the day LOL.

3) This is one of those movies that would be solved by modern day tech problems. You wouldn't have to send your lf a VHS tape you could probably just skype or something. And you'd probably have a cell phone so you wouldn't get lost in the woods or cutoff from the rest of civilization.

4) Although I will say, it is accurate in that you could probably learn Western Civ in one night. Cramming without actually learning anything succinctly describes this one guy I knows entire undergraduate career lol.

Near Dark

1) Really kind of an odd vampire movie. I'm not sure they ever mention the word vampires and except for the sun, they don't really show any anti-vampire techniques being rampantly used.

2) Vampire movies always give me the willies. I have a thing about the back of my ankles, my wrists, and my neck that freak me out when people touch me there. When she just bites him at the beginning of the movie I almost jumped out of my bed lol. And then the rest of the movie he just sucks on her wrist. Super creepy.

3) It's really tight when that driver goes missing. The guy is confused why the driver went to Kansas while he shoulda been in Waco, Texas. For anyone that's ever been to Waco, there's no mystery why you'd rather be in Kansas. I guess if you wanna get shit on by birds and cage an animal on your campus I understand. Kind of tight that the final showdown takes place in Kansas too.

4) Maybe it's just the Oklahoma/Texas crowd, but why on earth don't more people just GTFO when they see the vampires? It's like they're chilling at a bar and then vampires start biting people and everyone just stays chilling. I've only been at tha bar a few times when a fight broke out and generally it scared the hell out of me. I dunno why they're sticking around for the whole thing.

5) Pretty tight there's a little RomCom to it too with that dude and chick.

Mean Girls

I'm gonna try to get out of the way all of the non-horror movies I've seen recently since the great month of October is almost upon us. (I guess this has a little Halloween stuff in it. They go to that party and her two friends are watching Friday the 13th Part 2
).

1) It's a really solid movie. Pretty funny, original, and was a big motion picture debut for a lot of the people in it.

2) The really crazy part in this movie is that Lindsay Lohan plays the hero of the movie while Rachel McAdams is the evil one. I don't read a lot of gossip magazines (obvi) but I get that LL's gotten herself into a fair share of trouble. But evertime I think of Rachel McAdams I just think of how tight she was in The Notebook.

3) The other crazy thing  I never realized was that this was Amanda Seyfried's  big debut. She's one of my celebrity crushes which I'm sure I've mentioned before (see Jennifer's Body or Letters to Juliet).

4) And how tight was that kid's business card? Math enthusiast/bad ass M.C. Top notch.

See No Evil

1) This is a really solid movie. I never usually make it to the movie theater unless it's with a lady friend or Louisiana Judz (except for that time I got DB to go to Prom Night with me lol). But this movie was special enough to go see live.

2) It has several tight connections to tha Friday the 13th movies.The chick at the beginning doesn't have any eyes like that little girl in Freddy v. Jason. Also the whole theme where the mother summons her son to commit all those murders is pretty similar.

3) The theme music kind of drags on. I get that his mom made him listen to it nonstop during his childhood but you figure at some point he would call shenanigans and decide to turn on some different music at some point. Just imagine if he was tunin' into some TSwift at some point \o/

4) Despite it being a pretty solid horror movie it was also kind of funny. During the part at the end of the movie, the big guy falls down with this bar jammed into his head and keeps hitting it on the building. The entire theater was cracking up about how goofy it was lol.

American Reunion

What's good blog world. Back from tha long hiatus and gonna gii before July gets over \o/

1) It was pretty solid. Stifler always makes it rain and this movie wasn't any different. My only beef with these American Pie movies is that they always have these cheesy problems to deal with that don't really make sense. Like why do they have to have that Kevin/Vickie story drag on for 4 movies? SMH.

2) It does make me wonder why they always hate Stifler. I mean, after the second movie they were all good with him and then hate him for some reason before the 3rd movie. Then they ended that movie being good but hating him here again. Doesn't make that much sense.

3) I felt bad for that poor doctor guy who flew out to his girlfriend's high school reunion only to get dumped and then had to watch her make out with some other dude lol. Bet that flight home wasn't much fun lol.

4) Quality move at the end having Stifler gii with Finch's mom. Didn't really see that coming.

Eurotrip

1) Pretty solid movie all the way around. For those of you who might frequent the blog/my personal space, you probably already know that a trip to Europe sounds pretty stupid and there's no way in hell that I'll ever venture over there. That being said, the movie overcame such a herculean obstacle and was still pretty good.

2) Obvi there were some pretty jitsu parts. The road trip with the soccer (football?) team was stupid, and I could go without the nude beach thing. That really hit or miss Portlandia guy running in the train was also unnecessary.

3) That being said, both the chicks were super babes. The little brother was pretty funny, as well as Cooper making fun of the two siblings for making out lol.

4) Obvi the best part of the movie was the Scotty Doesn't Know song. I'll include it for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Takedowns and Falls

1) What a tight documentary. Compared to some of the other documentaries I've reviewed, this one was light years ahead of the rest.

2) Part of it is because wrestling fucking rules. It makes me :( that I didn't register to be a ref again this year lol. It was kind of jitsu how they always showed the matches going out of order to make it seem more dramatic and stuff, but I get that it was made for TV lol.

3) They didn't really focus on the 'coach has cancer' part of the storyline. I think the whole point of the movie was to win the coach a state title before he had to retire or whatever but they really downplayed it. That being said, although I'm not crazy about feel-good movies this one was pretty tight.

4) How tight was that Doug guy? He just talked about how he kept getting into juvi trouble, had ADD, and wanted to fight in the UFC. He made the movie super entertaining.

The Notebook

1) I know this will surprise my fans, but I am really up and down on this movie. Obvi I think it has one of the top 3 movie scenes in motion picture history (see my post here). It's tight that this scene is the cover for the movie poster too.

2) I'm not crazy about the ending-ending. I mean, I'm all happy that they fall in love after all those years and all that jazz. I even get how it's sad that she can't remember him and stuff all those years later. But how realistic is it that they go cuddle and die together? And what kind of security is that at the old folks home?

3) Anybody realize that Allie's dad in this movie is that evil defense attorney off of Law and Order SVU? I could never look at him the same after this movie lol.

4) Something that boosts the movie for me is the time that they won an MTV award for best kiss. Don't get it twisted, MTV awards are still pretty goofy and all, but it was tight. I've included it for your viewing pleasure.

Love Actually

1) I hate Christmas movies but this one's good.

2) The love triangle thing was really crazy/tight and unexpected. The scene where the dude goes back to the restaurant to speak the other language to that chick was super identical to the ending to the You Belong With Me video that TSwift did. Good stuff.

3) I get that it's real life and stuff, but the depressing endings to some of the stories always make me smh a little bit. The part where the mom is still kinda on the rocks with her husband for the secretary thing was pretty sad lol.

4) The only bad part is this movie has put up my expectations for all these other holiday romcom's that have 400 famous people in them. Valentine's Day was pretty mediocre and Roger Ebert said that people must have done crimes to deserve the punishment of being forced to act in that new movie New Year's Eve (it still looks okay though lol). Oh and the music during the movie isn't very good.

5) Last but not least, Elisha Cuthbert is a babe.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

1) It was really tight. Top notch stuff all the way around. It had the pretty usual RomCom framework but had that sick ending where you didn't realize everyone had all those connections to everyone. Good stuff.

2) There was just a bunch of small stuff that was tight about it. I'm not a big fan of really anyone that was in the movie but they all made it rain together. Those references to the Karate Kid were super tight.

3) Besides the whole 'put everything back together thing' I don't think it would've been the end of the world if Steve Carrell just took off with the good looking school teacher. I mean,

a) Julianne Moore just does cheat on him and divorces him out of nowhere.
b) She gets mad after he makes it rain after she dumped him- why should she care?
c) The other girl was tight
d) I can't stop thinking about Julianne Moore being from the tight movie HANNIBAL. I'm not sure she's real suited for RomComs.

4) It gets kind of drawn out in the middle when Ryan Gosling starts courting that girl but whatever.

No wonder Alan saw this in theaters (lol),

Bad Teacher

1) It was super raunchy which I'm always a big fan of. All the general immature humor is generally top notch too.

2) Justin Timberlake was kind of a n00b the whole movie. I get that he was supposed to play a n00b but I thought he was still pretty mediocre. Jkasten42 kept saying that movie Friends With Benefits is top notch, but I think the jury's already reached a conclusion about this one.

3) They really shoulda let Jason Segal make it rain more. He was real good in Knocked Up and I Love You Man (which I'm unsure why I haven't reviewed) but for some reason he didn't really have a huge role in this one.

4) Me and Roger Ebert are generally on the same page ranking movies, but I'm afraid he was out to lunch here.

Seven

1) I dunno why Brad Pitt is so angry the whole time. He's got this tight wife to go hang out with and gets to make it rain with Morgan Freeman all day in this tight detective job.

2) I guess Kevin Spacey made a pretty good bad guy. His voice/character were pretty scary the whole time. I'm never really wild about any of the movies he's in (American Beauty), but I guess if he's going to be in a good movie, he might as well be the bad guy.

3) Where in the hell was this supposed to be set in? It like rains all the time, but then there's this desert just outside of this urban area? They could've made the weather less jitsu.

4) LOL there's an episode of Friends where Chandler is in a box. OPEN THE BOX!

10 Things I Hate About You

Wgbw, since it's almost October (yeahbuddy) I'll be audibleing back to a pretty strict scary movie diet again soon. But until then I'm gonna try and get the last of these RomComs out of my system.

1) An oldie but goodie. It's got a pretty well rounded cast, had a good ending, and I've always had a thing for high school romcom/horror movies.

2) Seems like 1 thing they could've really fixed was how irritable everyone was during this movie. Julia Stiles gets all riled up about a bunch of shenanigans but then kind of gives in pretty fast about the whole 'you were paid to take me out' thing. And Alex Mack gets and that dude from Inception fight about the goofiest stuff, smh.

3) The scene where Julia Stiles reads him that poem is one of the better RomCom scenes of all time. Definitely top notch.

4) I've always had a crush on Julia Stiles too. Her and Amanda Peet. <3

Something Borrowed

1) It was pretty solid. It had enough good girly parts and was pretty funny for the most part.

2) Kate Hudson was a little over the top. I mean, I get that it was the point of the movie and all, but it was a little annoying.

3) The ending was pretty crappy. It reminded me a lot of The Break-Up where they just pass each other on the street and then it ends without any closure. I mean, I don't really care if Kate Hudson and that chick makeup but it at least would have made the movie end on a better note.

4) Despite the above, it was still really good. Sometimes you don't know why you like a movie but you just do. This was one of those <3
