WGBW, got a special post for you tonight. I'm re-reviewing the movie that was the blog's first ever post: Friday the 13th Part 6. Obvi my blogging skills are light years ahead of where they were then (lol) but for how good this movie is I never truly gave it the credit it deserved.
1) The biggest historical role for this movie was that it saved the Friday the 13th franchise from that really mediocre Friday the 13th Part 5 movie. Not that I was tuning into these movies at the time, but if I was I would've been so reluctant to go see this in the theaters after the part 5 movie. This movie is just literally running laps around the previous one.
2) I'd echo all of my sentiment from my post from 2 years ago. They rep that it's on Friday the 13th, Jason does do a pretty consistent job of going to town, and I still have a crush on the girl in this movie. I probably didn't rep that last point enough during my first review: it's really tight that this movie has a somewhat romcom flavor to it. How tight it must be for that Tommy guy. I mean, you get terrorized by Jason, locked up for the latter part of a decade, and then get thrown into jail only to be saved by the really good looking daughter of the sheriff. I know I think my life is tuning up but Tommy is probably one upping me.
3) This is the only Friday the 13th movie with no nudity, so if you're looking for some (sort of) clean family fun here it is.
4) Even the ending is tight. Given that it's the 6th movie of the series it's not ground breaking that there will be another sequel but I'm glad they didn't pretend to finish him off for good.

Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning
1) This is probably the worst Friday the 13th movie because Jason isn't even the killer smh. It's actually kind of unclear that he's even in the movie or if it's just people's imaginations. But how can you make a Friday the 13th movie and not have Jason be the guy making moves? It's like the time the Halloween movies decided that leaving Michael Myers out would be profitable smh.
2) This one was also way too drug out. I didn't really enjoy the setting at the midway house since it wasn't really at some camp/lakeside like the rest of tha movies.
3) That one girl who gets TKO'd in the woods was pretty fly \o/
4) After revisiting some of my reviews of all of the other Friday the 13th movies I don't think the C- ratings were necessarily deserved. I mean, the movies aren't that good, but they are still Friday the 13th movies which makes them at least B level.
No camp Crystal Lake, no Jason, no Bueno.

Freddy v. Jason Part 2
Wgbw! Interesting post today. This will be the first time that I'm re-reviewing a movie (you can see my original post here). Roger Ebert does it every now and then with movies he thinks that are classics and this movie is definitely a top 3.
Also @enronnie thought it would be a good idea. I know a lot of my followers (and I appreciate all of you) want me to review some movie. But most of the time it's either a) really boring, b) really long, or c) overrated. So get in my good graces and you might be rewarded. Anywho,
1) It still hasn't gone out of style. The plot's still really sick, the first 30 minutes are awesome, and the movie doesn't take some stupid turn for the worse near the end of it.
2) I caught a lot more references this time to previous movies. I will ashamedly (sp?) admit that I missed most of these the first time around because I hadn't seen all the jitsu sequels to the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. The other month I didn't realize that Freddy had a kid smh. Nevertheless I feel like a more thorough horror movie fan at this point in my life lol. The only big one (*big one lol*) that I'll point out for you fans was when Jason was in his nightmare and had that bag over his head; this was an obvious reference to Friday the 13th Part 2 where he reps the bag over his head instead of tha hockey mask.
3) I also never mentioned how much of a babe I thought the title character was. She's kinda goofy during the movie, but whatever.
4) This is a timeless classic that will never go out of style. I could watch this movie on repeat for hours. Evan @markster tuned into the movie and the movie again with director's commentary; that's how good it is.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood
What's good blog world, this last friday was FRIDAY THE 13TH, but there's 2 more of them this year (april and july) so I don't feel too terrible for missing this last one. The spooky part is is that there are 13 weeks between each one.
1) That being said, it's kind of goofy. I mean, this girl somehow telekineticly (sp?) makes Jason pop up and go crazy? What a gigantic screwup that was to accidentally make Jason pop back up instead of her dad.
2) This kind of ruined the ending as well too. I mean, this girl just has the ability to prevent Jason from killing people? They really coulda used this in Jason X when they can't seem to figure out how to stop him from making it rain on people.
3) This and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday are by far the worst Friday the 13th movies by far. I really wish they just woulda had Jason come back each movie with the same sort of plot. I don't understand why they have to throw in these stupid additional plot elements that suck.
4) I think there's all these crazy uncut scenes on the old DVD of this that I used to have, but I always remember them being pretty ho-hum given that they are from the late 80s lol.

Friday the 13th Part 3
1) This movie is also available in 3D and its tight. I really like 3D but the problem I have with it is the same problem I have with horror movies that are too scary: they freak me out. There's a scene where this pole looks like it's gonna hit you in the face and Jason shoots a spear gun at the camera. Spooky stuff.
2) It's tight he finally gets the hockey mask in this movie.
3) Alright BW, I also figured out that mystery from last night about the old dude. Abel is the name of this old dude and not Ralph. Sorry for the n00bery on my part BW, that was a rookie mistake.
4) I'm not terribly wild about the first few movies all having the samesque ending where the remaining survivor has something crazy happen to them only to wake up in the hospital. I'm glad they finally get over that in the last movies.
I've seen it almost too many times,

Friday the 13th Part 2
Today's FRIDAY THE 13TH!
1) Quite a bit better than the first one. Mostly due to the fact that Jason's moms not the killer anymore.
2) It's still a little jitsu. I don't know why Jason didn't find his hockey mask yet. The white bag over his head was a little goofy.
3) The ending was pretty good. Putting the mom's sweater on was a clutch move by that chick to TKO Jason.
4) I'm confused by the crazy guy dying during the beginning of the movie. For some reason I thought that he was around for Jason Takes Manhattan but I'll have to investigate that further.
Top notch stuff,

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday
Wgbf, sorry for the delays. Been busy with a bunch of school stuff. I'm still busy but having a hard time concentrating right now lol. The countdown will go on, but I just saw this and thought I'd schwangle it.
1) A pretty jitsu movie overall. I think the stupid looking poster gives it away. I don't know why they can't just have him keep making it rain at Camp Chrystal Lake. Deciding to let him manifest himself in all these other people is kind of jitsu.
2) To be honest, I've watched this movie 3 times and still don't know what happens. He gets in the other dude but then that bounty hunter guy keeps preventing him from dying? I'm not even sure how he dies at the end.
3) The tight part is when Freddy's hand comes out of the ground and pulls his mask down. I don't know how they would've imagined the sequel 13 years ahead of time, but props on that.
It was a turd but the Friday the 13th movies are tight,

Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan
Bunch of goofy errors in this movie.
1) The people just seem to set themselves up to be killed. In the opening scene the high school couple leaves a harpoon gun in the next room. Why do they even have a harpoon gun and why would they leave it out on Jason's home turf? And then you have the boxer guy who tries to beat up Jason. I'm no Evander Holyfield, but it doesn't seem like he had the business to take out Jason.
2) Jason seems to get more jitsu as the movies go on. Why does he run sometimes and then walks slow the others? At the end of the movie he sprinted through the door and then proceeded to walk real slowly towards the 2 kids. It doesn't make much sense. Also his face gets transformed from spooky to looking like one of the monsters from The Goonies
3) The whole water thing doesn't make sense either. In the other movies (this one included) they show Jason being afraid of the water. This movie ends because Jason gets scared of the water and drowns in it. But then riddle me this: how in the hell does he manage to swim from the sunken ship all the way to New York? It's like he goes from being someone who's afraid of the water to being an Olympic level swimmer.
4) Speaking of which, as a random aside, I don't understand how the girl who couldn't swim couldn't get out of the swim lessons. When I was little the water was always too cold and the swimming instructors would never let me get out of the pool so I just splashed kids till they got tired of it and made me get out. Dunno why she couldn't figure that out.
5) I don't get why there's always a random gardener/handyman who shows up in all the movies who warns of Jason. I don't get why the owners of the boat didn't just kick the guy off the boat for being all jitsu.
Had some good parts but drug on for way too long.
C
Jason X
A lot more jitsu then I remembered.
1) I never realized that this freeze thing was happens in the year 2010. Some of the 2400s parts of the movie seems kinda jitsu. I never understood why movie writers make some movie that takes place sometime in the future because inevitably they either overestimate what we can do in the future or underestimate it and we look like n00bs.
2) What was up with the people trying to study Jason? They had some immortal killer who had escaped the authorities dozens of times and killed everyone who tried to apprehend him. What were those people thinking when they wanted to keep him for more research? These people are smart enough to save the entire human race and move us to another planet but they can't figure out not to mess with this guy? For some advanced 2400 year thinking they certainly dropped the ball on this one.
3) Some of the kills were pretty original. When he freezes that girls face then smashes it it's pretty crazy. And the ending is tight when they end up back at Camp Crystal Lake.
Had it's moments but not very good.

Friday the 13th (2009)
1) The story doesn't make that much sense. It shows little Jason seeing his mom get her head wacked off but in the original Jason was already dead when that happened. I also don't really get why Jason kidnapped the one chick.
2) The movie seemed to drag on for forever. That opening scene takes like 45 minutes and you think that'll set up the movie but then it starts all over like 30 years later. #jitsu. The reason most of these teen slasher movies are good is because all of the shenanigans go down in such a short amount of time. By the end of most horror movies 1 of 2 things usually happens; Either the killer has managed to survive a wreck of kills or the kills have just gotten so stupid that the movie just needs to end. I think this one coulda been cut down quite a bit.
3) What was up with Jason's hangout/cave place? I don't understand why they have to give these slasher guys little make shift beds and stuff like that. I just can't imagine Jason making it rain all day and then just going back to his little lair, shutting the lights off, and going to bread.
Not as good as a bunch of the remakes,

Friday the 13th (1980)
1) One of the first few movies that really nailed the point of view killer thing. Halloween
2) Once you figure out that it's Jason's mom it's still spooky for a bit. The whole 'kill her mommy kill her' line is pretty famous and creepy.
3) That being said the last part of the movie where the one chick keeps fighting Jason's mom is pretty jitsu. It looked like a bad episode of cops where the police roll up and 2 old women are trying to burn each other with cigarettes. Makes you wonder how the mom really would've been able to sneak around to kill all those people.
A classic for sure but the ending kind of tanks it.

Freddy v. Jason
1) It's sick. The movie sets up the background of both characters real well. If people hadn't seen any of the movies before they'd still know how freddy and jason both went apeshit.
2) There's a bunch of kills that are like ones in previous movies. Freddy getting his head loped off is how Jason's mom died in the first movie. In Jason Goes to Hell, Jason's mask is dug up by a dog at the end of the movie, and a freddy claw comes out of the ground and pulls the mask down to hell. A pretty sick setup that a lot of people probably missed b/c Jason Goes to Hell was a pretty big turd of a movie.
3) The rest of the deaths are all pretty crazy. The dude gets crunched up in the bed, that one chick gets flung from a big stick, and jason throws that sick flaming knife after the redneck dude.
4) there's a fair amount of nudity to which matches the rest of the movies lol.
Top notch shit - A+

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

Still light years ahead of the 3rd movie but not near as good as a few of the others.
1) There's a guy named jimbo which is tight.
2) Besides the few killings at the beginning it takes quite awhile to get to the killings. Even the traditional friday the 13th banging scenes take awhile.
3) However there is quite a bit more nudity in this one.
Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI

Substantially better then most of the other ones.
1) It happens on friday the 13th. that's tight.
2) the beginning starts off with jason making it rain.
3) the cop's daughter is hot. not as hot as in halloween 4, but pretty close. she also makes inappropriate poon jokes lol.
